It redraws Figure 4 as accessible SVG with a text alternative and a data table that carry the same information. The 4 fills step from light to dark, so each segment prints as its own grey; the labels and arrowheads carry the order.

Ensuring we are ready for the next election

During the 3-year electoral cycle, we focus on the 4 phases of election preparedness in our Election Readiness Framework: plan; mobilise; deliver; and finalise.1

Figure 4 shows the 4 phases and the order they run in. Table 1 lists the same phases with the colour used for each.

Note: Figure 4 draws the phases as a closed ring of arrows running clockwise, so Finalise leads back to Plan. The fills step from light to dark in phase order. The labels and arrows already carry that order, so colour adds nothing. The colours are this re-production’s, not the report’s. The source page names the phases and their order. It says the framework gives the Electoral Commissioner assurance that the AEC is at an appropriate ‘level of readiness’. It does not describe what happens in each phase, so this table does not either. The framework changed during 2024–25: the 2024–25 Corporate Plan had 3 phases (lessons; implement change; and mobilisation). See footnote 1.

Within this framework, we prepare for federal electoral events through our Election Ready Road Map. Each phase of the framework directs our activities and provides a path towards delivering the next federal electoral event. These phases synchronise event preparation across the AEC to meet the ‘directed level of election readiness’.

The Election Readiness Framework gives the Electoral Commissioner assurance that we are at an appropriate ‘level of readiness’ to conduct a federal event when required.

We used our framework to successfully prepare for and deliver the federal election on 3 May 2025.
